This is one of my favorites. A repeating pattern I find in most of my dreams is that I can save/load, like a video game. This is quite fantastic, because I never feel like I’m in mortal danger, and if I mess up I can try again. Here is a perfect example:
Setting: Civilization (game) dreamscape, snowy mountains. First person view.
Objective: I’m a wolf in a wolf pack, at war with the ninja cats. We have to ask the mighty gryphon for help, but he wants a magic ring (which the governor possesses) in exchange. However, the Ninja cat clan wants the magic ring as well…
Our wolf pack makes it to the governors cabin in the mountains, but we have to be sneaky if we want the ring. We walk right in and see the ring on the floor, so one of our pack members distracts the governor by talking to him so we can steal it. Unfortunately, he notices, and we get a game over. Load!
New tactic. We distract the governor by talking to him again and trying to get him to come outside. However, it takes to long to convince him, and a black ninja cat climbs through the window, stealing the ring for himself. Dang. Load!
Convinced that distracting the governor isn’t going to work, I just tell him the truth. “We need the ring to give to the might gryphon, and any moment now, a black ninja cat is going to climb through your window and steal it. Don’t ask me how I know that, I just do.” Unfortunately, it takes too long to explain, and black ninja cat has already come and gone. LOAD!!!
This is where it gets interesting. This time, I pay no attention to the governor, I just barge into the cabin and hide beside the window, setting a trap for black ninja cat. Sneaky sneaky black ninja cat. Sure enough, he comes, and I grab onto his tail. He freaks out, jumps out the window, trying to shake me loose while at the same time, jumping all the way to the secret ninja cat hideout. Well, actually, it’s a giant castle fortress on the peak of the snowy mountain (also the ninja cat college).
Black ninja cat shakes me off and runs away. I walk up the giant steps into the castle, which has no doors, and I somehow end up in the computer lab. Tons of computers side by side, with cats on every one. I look around, also seeing a railroad station with a friendly monkey man in charge. It’s freezing in here, I ask for a blanket, which I am quickly given. The ninja cats aren’t so bad after all!
I decide the best thing to do is run back to my wolf base and tell the others that this war is pointless. Unfortunately, as we all know, sometimes when playing a video game, you jump a little too far, missing a platform or path. As I was running and jumping back, I did just that, and fell off the mountain. Oops. However, I hadn’t saved since the governors cabin! I hate forgetting to save on a regular basis! Frustrated, I wake up.
